SAXTHORPE: Military Landing Ground
Note: This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©
I have to thank the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust website for helping to confirm the exact location.
Military users: RFC/RAF (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)
51 [Home Defence] Sqdn (Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2 & BE.12, Avro 504K)
Note: It appears that 51 Squadron used the Avro 504K for night flying, so, being based at MARHAM, perhaps they didn't use the type here?
Location: S of Little Barningham, about 1.5nm SSW of Matlaske and also about 1.5nm NNE of Saxthorpe on the B1354. Roughly 16nm NNW of Norwich
Period of operation: 1916 to 1919
Site area: 37 acres 503 x 293
