Scotney Court

SCOTNEY COURT: Water aerodrome (Licensed)    (Aka JURYS GAP)

Operated by: The Tiger Club

The 'Sea Tiger' G-AIVW
The 'Sea Tiger' G-AIVW

Note: This very rare picture of David Faulkner-Bryant clambering around on 'Victor Whisky' at SCOTNEY COURT was scanned from the December 2017 issue of Light Aviation magazine.

Location: On the border between Kent & Sussex. 1.5nm SW of Lydd

Period of operation: Late 1970s and early 1980s only?

Trots: Two gravel pits joined by a canal which was sometimes used when taking off

NOTES: In the middle of the eastern gravel pit there was a small island nicknamed ‘Tiger Island’ where the ‘Sea Tiger’ DH Tiger Moth G-AIVW was moored during the week. According to Jim Alderton who once managed the Tiger Club and who gave me these details ‘Victor Whisky’ was deliberately ‘sunk’ by flooding the floats to "help stop the old girl blowing away" during weekdays when it was rarely if ever used.

For a short period the Super Cub G-AVPT was also operated on floats by the Tiger Club from here during the summer months, (for one year only?), the floats being on loan from a member.
