These two pictures are from my Google Earth © derived database, Please not that by no means are all the flying sites listed in this 'Guide' pinned on my database. With now, (in 2025), over 7000 flying sites listed, in many areas it would just be a mass of yellow pins.

HOW TO DEFINE A DEFINITION?

This has been a constant problem in compiling this 'Guide', and in so many different ways. For example, in this case how does one describle the status of Gustave Hamel in those days? Very famous of course, but also, in modern terms, also very much a 'super star'. By comparison several other pioneer aviators achieved considerable fame in the U.K., but, not perhaps 'super star' status? What I have discovered over the years is that Gustav Hamel, (English despite his German sounding name), had become very attractive to young ladies. Indeed, it seems that large groups of them travelled around the country, from venue to venue, to swoon over their idol as he displayed with his aeroplane. A situation that, as far as I am aware, never occurred again after WW1.
