Scoulton
Note: This position on the map is just my guess. There is a shape here which is very reminiscent of a WW1 Landing Ground - except for the lake! If anybody can kindly offer advice on the location, this will be most welcome.
SCOULTON: Military Landing Ground
Military user: RFC (Royal Flying Corps)
51 [Home Defence] Sqdn (Avro 504Ks)
Location: In/near Scoulton, N of the B1108, roughly 7nm S to SSW of Dereham
Period of operation: 1917 only it seems
NOTES: It appears that this site was used only as a Night Landing Ground by 51 Sqdn from January to October 1917. I now wonder how many times this Landing Ground was actually used? Can anybody kindly offer advice on this?
This is interesting to some extent. 51 Squadron mainly flew Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2s and B.E.12s it seems. However, a found a mention that they also flew Avro 504Ks to give new pilots night flying experience. So, did just the Avro 504K use this site, or all three types mentioned?
