Location: S of A606, roughly 1.5nm SE of Empingham, 4nm W of Stamford

Period of operation: From 1980s to the 2000s

Runway: Up to 2010:     05/23    590   grass

From 2011:   05/23   790   grass

Note:  If the Google Earth dates can be trusted (?) the new longer runway was laid out and became operational in 2011. It runs parallel to and just south of the original runway. The 2011 picture above also shows evidence of the old runway.

NOTES: This location is now in RUTLAND of course but, for quite a long period, (I don’t know the dates unfortunately), this County ceased to ‘officially’ exist and was incorporated into LEICESTERSHIRE.

At the 2012 LAA Rally at SYWELL (NORTHAMPTONSHIRE) the immaculate 1947 Auster J1N Alpha, G-AJIW arrived from here.

The DfT has issued guidance that private pilots "should not undertake any sport or leisure flying, in line with the requirement to stay at home without reasonable excuse". So why are planes still taking off from your airstrip when the nation is in lockdown 2?

Hi Rob, Not sure why you have asked me. I have nothing to do with this airfield. However, as far as I am aware, flights can still be made for air testing purposes. Regards, Dick
