Shotley

Note: This map only gives a rough position for the site within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice as to a more exact location, this will be most welcome.

SHOTLEY: Military Balloon Station   (Aka HARWICH)

Military users: RNAS/RAF Kite Balloon Station (for two balloons)

Location: SSE of Shotley, just W Shotley Gate on the N side of the estuary opposite Harwich International Port

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919   (Other sources claim 1914 to 1918)

NOTES: There was clearly a lot more going on at SHOTLEY, mainly functioning as a shore base for maritime activities.
