SOUTH MOOR FARM:  Private airstrip

Aerial view

Note: This picture (2018) was obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by:   Mr Bob Walker

Location:  In/near Langdale End, roughly 8nm WNW of Scarborough town centre

Period of operation:   2016 to -

Runway:  05/23   600   grass

NOTES:  Initially operated, I assume, under the 28 day rule?

It appears that in 2018 planning permission was being sought to erect a hangar for up to ten aircraft and a rest room for pilots. Another shorter E/W runway for use in strong crosswinds was also envisaged. Reading the pre-consultation document it was clear that this airstrip was intended for use only by experienced pilots and that the whole enterprise was being planned on a very responsible basis, especially regarding minimal noise intrusion for neighbours - of which there doesn't appear to be very many nearby.

With so many UK airfields either closed, or facing a threat of closure, one must surely wish this project every success.
