St Peter Port

Note: This map only gives the general location of St Peter Port within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice as to where the flying boats operated, this will be most welcome.

St PETER PORT: Military then civil flying boat base

Military user: Flying boat base for the French (CAM) Aeronavale in WW1

British airline user: British Marine Air Navigation

Location: Presumably within the main harbour area?

Period of operation: Military (French): 1917 to 1918         Civil: 1922 to 1934?

NOTES: When the first British Marine Air Navigation service landed here, in August 1922, it seems this was the first visit to the island by a civil British aircraft. This airline was absorbed into Imperial Airways and in May 1924 a daily service from Southampton with Supermarine Sea Eagles started.

It appears the Guernsey service ceased in 1929 when the aircraft were deployed for service in the Mediterranean. However, it was still listed in a 1934 edition of Air Pilot and with Customs facilities
