Note: This map only gives a pretty good idea of the location.

St HELENA TAVERN & TEA ROOMS: Balloon ascent site

Operated by: Mr Chas. Green

Location: Today: S of and parallel to Rotherhithe New Road

Period of operation: Monday 16th September 1850

NOTES: According to a poster in the Royal Aeronautical Society Library this gala event, combined with a firework display, was to be the first night ascent. Was this the first night ascent ever in the UK, or Mr Greens first night ascent? Or both?
