STALYBRIDGE: Balloon ascent venue
NOTES: Probably in the late 19th century, possibly in the early 20th century.
Now part of the Greater Manchester area, Stalybridge is still actually in CHESHIRE, and just butting up against the LANCASHIRE border. The traditional Counties have not gone away - only an Act of Parliament can change them - but the trend of artificially created purely administrative areas such as Greater Manchester, Greater London, Bristol and Avon, Tyne & Wear, tends to make many people think otherwise.
A trawl around the inter-web does not appear to reveal any more information regarding a balloon ascent (or ascents) in Stalybridge. Hardly the best way to do research, I nevertheless need to rely on this source quite often, as attempting anything more for this 'Guide' demands far too much time - and sometimes travel.
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
