Military user: RNAS  (Royal Naval Air Service)

Also Marine Acceptance Depot and Flying Boat Training Base

419 Flight   (Short 184s)

Location: About 1nm E of the Tay Road Bridge, in Dundee

Period of operation: WW1: 1914 to 1919
Note: Probably later too, records including picture records seem to indicate this flying boat base was active possibly into WW2?

NOTES:
It also appears this site may well have been active just before WW1? What does seem to be the case is that round or about the start of WW1 the RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service) established ten bases in the UK from Angelsey in the west, to Dundee in the north to defend the UK. It is often forgotten that when WW1 started, the task of aerial defence of the UK became mainly a task for the Royal Navy, who had some inland bases such as CHINGFORD (LONDON).
