38 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c, later F.E.2b types)
 

Location: Just N of No Mans Lane, SW of Stanton-by-Dale, about 1.5nm NW of junction 25 on the M1

Period of operation: 1916 to 1917


NOTES:  Thanks to Patricia Frith, (see 'Comment' below), this entry was amended in October 2020. In the original picture there was a machine in the field, possibly harvesting, but it is obscured by my marker and caption. Just hoping I have selected the correct field!

Hi my family always told me that the top field of my Uncles farm was known as the 'flying ground' The farm was Lodge Farm and it backed on to No Mans Lane. If you go onto Google Earth and go for the Derby one you can see the farm quite clearly. The field I mean is the one that looks as if it is being harvested, Hope this helps. By the way this site has put my mind to rest in relation to my family tales .Regards Pat
