Operated by: Mr Chris Marsh

Location: Just NNW of Whitwell village, about 2.5nm WNW of Ventnor town centre

Period of operation:  1990s (?) to -

Runway:  1999:  16/34   250   grass         2004:   16/34  340  grass           Later:  17/35   400   grass

NOTES: It appears that Mr Marsh was/is operating the Vans RV-4 G-PIPS from here.

Some years ago I made this comment: "This has me utterly discombulated. It appears that this airstrip is E of the FRESHWATER FARM airstrip. However, looking at Google Earth I can see no obvious evidence of a prepared runway in and around this location, and the Vans types definitely need to use a well prepared runway. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome."

What a pleasure it was to get a 'Comment' see below, from Chris Marsh. Sorted it out immediately - I had the site already listed in my notes as WHITWELL.

There is a serious point to be made, which is made on the homepage to this 'Guide'. It is not a 'Guide' to pilots - the aim is to record for prosterity the history of flying sites within the U.K. Clearly an impossible task, but at least I have made a start.

The airstrip is parallel to, and between Cow Drove Hill and a large pond, just south of Stockbridge. Clearly visible on Google Earth, two aircraft present.
