The 2000 picture was obtained from Google Earth ©. The local area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.

Operated by:  Mr Bernard J Dunford

Location: Just SW of Fishers Pond village on the B3354/B2177 junction. About 2.5nm NE of the centre of Southampton (Eastleigh) airport

Period of operation:  November 1999 until February 2003

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this location. It was the base for the Currie Wot G-APNT for a few years, but what we do not know is how often, (actually if at all?), Mr Dunford flew it. The 2000 picture appears to show no evidence of a mown strip, but of course the Currie Wot does not need one.

Of some interest is that the information regarding G-APNT on G-INFO is incorrect. I have been in contact with Mr Stephen Slater, very well known for his connection with the Light Aviation Association, and he has kindly confirmed that he acquired G-APNT from Mr Dunford in 2003.

As mentioned elsewhere in this 'Guide', I have been working away at trying to become a nerdy anorak in my old age. So, in looking at the history of the Currie Wot G-APNT, I was somewhat surprised to discover that it was built by the Hampshire Aeroplane Club based at EASTLEIGH, now of course known as SOUTHAMPTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - so, it nearly made it back home eventually for a while!

It was first registered to Mr Vivian H Bellamy from 18.06.58 until 01.04.59 before being sold on. 'Viv' Bellamy was quite a character and the leading light of the Hampshire Aeroplane Club. Well worth having a 'Google' to learn about his involvement in our aviation history. And, perhaps I should mention, there is some of this history relayed in my listing for SOUTHAMPTON AIRPORT.
