STRATFORD-upon-AVON: Temporary Landing Ground

NOTES: Sir Alan Cobham’s 1929 Municipal Aerodrome Campaign visited Stratford-upon-Avon on the 24th May.
This was the eighth venue on the 'Tour' which started in May and ended in October with one hundred and seven towns and cities planned to be visited. After a couple of crashes and other setbacks, he nevertheless managed to visit around 95 venues. A quite magnificent achievement in those days, especially when you bear in mind that many of the venues were unprepared fields.
Without any doubt this 'Campaign' led to many aerodromes being commissioned, mostly in England. Two venues took place in Wales and eight in Scotland.
The aircraft Cobham mostly used for this tour was the ten-seater de Havilland DH61 'Giant Moth' G-AAEV, named 'Youth of Britain'. But it appears this visit didn't result in a 'Municipal' aerodrome here.
Note: Mike Holder also found this article published in the Coventry Evening Telegraph on the 12th October 1929. It seems not known what advice Cobham might have given, but it appears it was ignored and the aerodrome failed to materialise.
In April 1931 CD Barnard Air Tours used a venue in/near Stratford-upon-Avon.
Two years later on the 4th August 1933 Cobhams No.1 Tour visited Stratford again.
When starting this research I would have been very tempted to rush to the conclusion that they surely must have used an existing site. But experience has shown it is very foolish to rush to such deductions.
Note: If anybody today can be kind enough to sort this lot out, this advice will be very welcome.
