SUFFOLK COAST: Early powered hang-glider trials

NOTES: Unfortunately the location isn’t known, and of course, there may have been several sites used. My attention to this particular area was drawn from a picture caption in Light Aviation magazine: “David Cook flying his Volmer Jensen VJ-23E on the Suffolk coast in 1977."

He had been flying the aircraft as a rigid wing hang-glider since 1973 and added a McCulloch 101 engine (weighing on 12lb) and carved his own propeller. He is credited as the first person to fly a powered rigid-wing hang-glider in the UK. He went on to design the very successful Shadow series of microlight and light aeroplanes.

If anybody knows where David Cook actually made these trials I would be interested to know.
