Note:  All of these pictures are from my Google Earth © derived database.

Operated by: Mr William Greenwood

Location:  Just ENE of Swanborough village, about 1.5nm SSW of Lewes town centre

Period of operation: ?  1990s perhaps?  To -

Runway:   06/24   600   grass       Extended to 900 metres c.2004
Note:   The 2004 picture above seems to show the 300 metre extension being laid out.

NOTES: There is a web-site for Swanborough Farm which gives details of the facilities available, including the airstrip which states the runway is 600 metres long.

Looking at this location on Google Earth it appears the runway is 900 metres long, and indeed, a picture on the web-site of a DH.104 Dove landing here on runway 24 with the chalk cliffs just beyond the A27 clearly visible in the background certainly seems to indicate that 900 metres is available as 600 metres on grass is a bit marginal for the Dove?

A picture caption on page 19 of the January 2005 issue of Popular Flying gives the impression that the Vans RV-6 G-USRV is/was based here. The Jodel DR220 G-BLCT flown by Mr Rod Palmer booked into Flying For Fun at KEMBLE in 2006 from SWANBOROUGH FARM.

The AAIB report EW/G2009/07/02 shows the Skystar Kitfox Mk.5 G-LESZ was also operating from this site and a later report, EW/G2013/ 05/21, indicates that the Laser Z200, G-VILL, was probably also based here in 2013.
