Tarraby Farm
TARRABY FARM: Private airstrip/airfield?
A QUERY
This query comes from Mr Graham Frost who is a great friend of this 'Guide', contributing very many locations over the years. However, a few have been open to question as he readily admits, and here is another.
He discovered that the Auster J/1 Autocrat, G-AGVI, was registered to Mr Thomas Holliday Littleton from 03.05.60 until 15.03.65, and his address was Tarraby Farm, Tarraby.
Tarraby is roughly 1.5nm NNE of Carlisle city centre and the local area has seen a fair amount of ad hoc development since the 1960s.But, even so there are still quite large fields in the immediate vicinity suitable for being used by an Auster Autocrat, especially so if in some cases a large 'hole-in-a-hedge' had been provided.
However of course, the burning question remains - was it? And, if so, was G-AGVI actually based here, or otherwise used just for visits to the home?
Right from the start of this project, now over a quarter of a century ago, (in 2026), it has been as much about posing questions rather than always attempting definitive answers. This is all recent history and I have been astonished to discover just how difficult it can often be to provide proof, especially regarding exact locations. However, in the main, this 'Guide' is intended to only provide a record of a flying site and mostly I like to think that this objective has succeeded?
So, back to this query. If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be very much appreciated.
