We have Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for investigating what is available to illustrate this listing and also providing the maps and pictures. These items have been roughly divided into two sections, starting with Thrunscoe Farm.

MY NOTE:  The term "Barnstormers" has been often applied to the 'Flying Circus' operators in the UK, which is both incorrect and very misleading. The term originated in the USA when, after WW1, in order to attract large crowds of paying spectators, a pilot would literally fly, usually a war-surplus Curtiss 'Jenny' into a barn! Typically escaping more or less unhurt as the wings breaking off as it flew through the open barn door acting as a 'crumple zone'. To date, in 2025, I have not come across this kind of stunt ever being performed in the UK. Unless you know better?

THE RECREATION GROUND 1931
We do not know exactly where this event was held, but the clue in the advert below clearly indicates it was west of the boating lake. Apart from the Area View which is from my Google Earth© derived database, the other two items were published in the Grimsby Daily Telegraph.

MORE NOTES:  I have tried and failed miserably to identify which organisation arranged this 'Air Pageant'. It would seem that the main concerns were, perhaps (?), either: Aviation Tours Ltd or North British Aviation C. Ltd, If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
