Note: The first picture by the author was taken through perspex. However, looking at this picture later on, I then realised it has, just left of the airfield, evidence of a very rare effect produced in the atmosphere - something resembling a spotlight with rays spreading from it. I cannot be certain, but feel sure this wasn't produced by a reflection on the perspex in the aircraft we were flying in - a PA-28. Also, I was sitting in the right hand seat with the camera lens very close to the perspex to avoid any reflections.

The two pictures taken in 2005 would almost certainly have been taken from a Cessna 172 with the window open.

Operated by: 1990/2000: Thurrock Leisure Ltd

Location: 5nm SW of Basildon

Period of operation: 1980s (?) to -

Runway: 1990/2000: 09/27    650x30   grass

07/25   650   grass according to an AAIB report in 2005. This report also mentioned that a 100 metre paved extension was available for runway 07

The first picture clearly shows that a hard runway has been added north of the original grass runway. This appears to have been added circa 2013

Also, circa 2017, a -  13/31   495   grass runway was added

A PERSONAL MEMORY
In April 1995 I, along with my good friend Guy Browning, decided to take a visit to THURROCK in the late afternoon, our first visit to this airfield. This picture was taken just before we departed to fly back to WYCOMBE AIR PARK into the setting sun.
