TIPTOFT FARM: Temporary aerodrome

NOTES: We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for providing this information, and the map. What we don't know is which field was used, so if anybody can kindly offer advice this will be much appreciated.
As a general rule a field was selected to be as convenient as possible for the majority of visitors mostly arriving by foot or bicycle. Often bus services were provided too, but, looking at maps, etc, I cannot see an obvious location for the venue. A fairly large field was required, not just for flying activites, but also for providing enough space for the spectators.
This No.2 Tour commenced at HOLT FARM, Southend on the 14th/15th April, and finished at MAYLANDS aerodrome, Romford, also in Essex, on the 8th October. TIPTOFT FARM was planned to be the 151st venue and it appears they arrived on time. Perhaps not usually realised today is that all the 'Flying Circus' venues, even if used for just one day, had to be officially licensed aerodromes. In the early days a couple of men from the Ministry would survey the venue beforehand, often imposing restrictions as to the landing directions to be used by various types of aircraft.
