Walmer

WALMER:   Military aerodrome

NOTE:  Some time later, in around 1930, this aerodrome became civil. See seperate entry for KINGSDOWN.

Operated by:  RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service), later RAF (Royal Air Force)

It appears that two RNAS squadrons were based here initially, but I cannot find which ones they were. Some sources say they were No.3 and No.8 Squadrons, but it seems to me that these were RFC (Royal Flying Corps) squadrons.

Once it became a RAF aerodrome it seems that 233 Squadron were flying Sopwith Camels here, and Flight 491 Airco DH9s.
