WINKFIELD: Military Relief Landing Ground
 

Military user: RAF Flying Training Command

18 EFTS [Elementary Flying Training School]      (DH Tiger Moths)
 

Location: NW of B3022, N to NE of A330, NE of Winkfield, W to WSW of Cranbourne, E to ESE of Maidens Green, 4nm SW of Windsor

Period of operation: 1941 to 1945

 

Runways: N/S   608   grass           NE/SW   896   grass 
                E/W   576   grass          NW/SE   704   grass



NOTES: In the first year or two when starting researching this 'Guide' in around 2000, I would have immediately jumped to the conclusion that this aerodrome and the ‘ Flying Circus’ venue listed below were obviously one and the same place. Today I feel very cautious about reaching such a conclusion.



 

WINKFIELD PLAIN FARM: Temporary aerodrome
 

Operated by: Alan Cobham’s 1935 No.1 Tour
 

Location: Winkfield village is 4nm SW of Windsor so presumably this venue is nearby the WW2 airfield? Perhaps the same site?

Period of operation: 27th September 1935


NOTES:  If anybody can now confirm where the Cobham event took place, this will be very welcome.
