Woad Farm
WOAD FARM: Helicopter base
Location: On the B526, just N of Newport Pagnall
Period of operation: 1980s only?
NOTES: There is no intention in this 'Guide' of attempting to list all the private helicopter bases in the UK - it would be impossible of course. But, as a reminder of this, I have included some.
A QUERY
Right from the start of this project, now over a quarter of century ago in 2025, and being just a 'Guide', it was realised that rather than trying to provide definitive answers, it must also pose many questions. And this is a good example. Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide'. pointed out to me that the Beagle-Auster A61 Terrier, G-ARTM, was registered to Mr Sydney N Cole with the address being Woad Farm Stables, from 06.01.70 to 02.10.70. But, with a note that from 31.07.70 he was a charterer.
From which I think it is fair to assume that the Terrier was both airworthy with an airstrip laid out? In 1970 at least? It would appear that the enterprise failed as G-ARTM was declared PWFU (Permanently Withdrawn From Use), 12.09.73. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
