Note: This map only shows the position of Bakewell within the UK. If anybody can kindly give a more exact location for the Cobham venue, this advice will be most welcome.

BAKEWELL: Temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: On the 14^th August 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour displayed in/near Bakewell. Perhaps using the large flat site used by ‘Shows’ in the 21^st century, just S to SE of the town centre?

Bakewell was the 110^th venue for the No.2 Tour starting at Holt Farm, Ashingdon Road, Southend (ESSEX) in April 1933 and ending at Maylands Aerodrome  (ESSEX) on the 8^th October with barely a day off in between for the air and ground crews.

From The Derbyshire Advertiser and Journal – Friday 23 August 1929 – Berkshire Aviation Tours ltd started operations on 18 Aug 1929 at Bakewell in a field next to the High Peak Hunt Kennels off Shutts Lane which can be seen on Google Earth – 53 12 28”N 001 41 11”W – the field is bounded by roads on 2 sides – NE and NW. The old isolation hospital was removed to facilitate the flying.
