NOTES: This might be as good a place as any, to mention how the world of undertaking a project such as this 'Guide' has changed beyond recognition over the last quarter of a century. Indeed, the original project, started over twenty years ago, was to produce a book. In those days I thought I knew a thing or two about our aviation history - and I was quite correct. I did know a thing or two - but nothing more!
Also, when I set out to research the subject, all the information was gleaned from books, magazine articles, pamphlets and so on. Contacts were by telephone or by letters. The internet being still a new fangled invention. By the time I retired nearly ten years ago, it was obvious that a web-site was the way forward and most communications would be by e-mail. The huge advantage of a web-site being that I could constantly add new material and amend existing listings.
This listing is an excellent example. For a long time I had a listing for BENACRE, with very sparse details in text. When Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide', decided to investigate this location, he sent me, by e-mail, what he had found. Adding this and doing the page layout took me only an hour or so. Needless to say, if a book had been published, and it would have required several large volumes of course, that would have been that. Unless, a series of heavily amended re-prints could be arranged, which I suppose would be highly unlikely.
