Note: This article was published in the Birmingham Daily Gazette on the 21st August. Typically, the journalist got his facts in a twist, and it was actually the 112th venue during that tour, not the 122nd.
NOTES:
Just as an aside, probably not the case in this location, it was not too unusual for the advance ground crew to turn up at a pre-arranged site to discover the farmer had ploughed up the agreed field - so another nearby site had to be found ASAP. Heavens knows how they conducted communications in such situations but they obviously managed to cope somehow.
As Geoffrey Negus and Tommy Staddon pointed out in their excellent book ‘Aviation in Birmingham’ published in 1984, Bickenhill Lane runs between the site of the NEC, (National Exhibition Centre) and the new BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT terminal. And, it still does.
