Note: A search on the interweb has totally failed to identify what a FLS was - any ideas?
In September 2018 Alexander Hudgton contacted me and kindly offered the suggestion - Fighter Leaders School?
Location: Between B1340 and main East coast railway, 2nm NW of Embleton, 9nm N of Alnwick
(I would reckon it is nearer 7nm N of Alnwick)
Period of operation: Military: 1942 to 1945 Civil: 1980s to 2004?
Runways: WW2: 03/21 1463x46 hard 15/33 1005x46 hard
07/25 1005x46 hard
1990s: 08/26 ?x46 hard
Oddly enough, a search on Google Maps in 2016 indicates two runways, 03/21 and 15/33. Still available for use?
NOTES: Was the Evans VP-2 G-BJZB based here in the late 1980s before going to STORNAWAY in the SHETLAND ISLES? In 2001 it appears this aeroplane, together with it’s owner of course, made a pretty epic flight from STORNAWAY to BREIGHTON.
In November 2017 I was contacted by Mike Charlton who told me that he could confirm that BRUNTON was definitely closed.
