Kings Hill
Note: This map shows the position of the area known as Kings Hill in 2016.
KINGS HILL: Military Landing Ground (later known as WEST MALLING?)
Military users: RFC/RAF (Royal Flying Corps, later Royal Air Force)
50 [Home Defence] Sqdn (Armstrong Whitworth F.K.8s, later Sopwith Camels)
Note: 50 Squadron certainly flew the B.E.2 and then the B.E.12 after they were initially formed, but were they still flying these types once they started operating from here?
143 [Home Defence] Sqdn (Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5, Sopwith Camels and Snipes)
Location: In/near Kings Hill presumably just W of the A228, about 5 nm W of Maidstone centre
Period of operation: 1917 to 1919
Site area: 47 acres 594 x 347
NOTES: It would seem almost definite this WW1 site later formed part of the WW2 aerodrome. If not it was certainly very close by? Can anybody kindly offer advice on this?
