Shendish

SHENDISH: Private airstrip   (Aka SHENDISH MANOR)

Operated by: 1980s/1990s: Mr R J Pooley

Location: 0.5nm E of the A41, in/near Shendish, 2nm SW of Hemel Hempstead, 3nm NW of LEAVESDEN

Period of operation: 1980s/1990s only?

Shendish in 1993
Shendish in 1993

Runway: 18/36   520x15   grass

NOTES: The Mr R J Pooley who operated this airstrip was the founder of the Pooley's pilots flight guides, which I believe were the first in the market to establish, as far as possible, detailed and reliable information for pilots visiting an unfamiliar destination. Their shop and company office is, (and has been for many years) at ELSTREE.

Also, when I first started creating this web-site, and after he had seen the initial results, Robert Pooley readily agreed to the lovely maps they produce being used in this Guide at no cost. A most generous gesture for which I am very grateful. I was keen to obtain this permission simply because, when I was flying around and visiting many airports, airfields and airstrips, I invariably found the information to be both accurate and useful - which was not always the case with a couple of competitors products. But, this was many years ago.

Just found Shendish Airfield on an A-Z 2011 road atlas. Was intrigued so Googled it and your website with an entry that said it was Bob Pooley's. Very interesting. Thanks.John.
